Feb, 2023
Welcome to the Spring 2023 season! It promises to be another exciting time at our beautiful fields as we begin upper league practices tomorrow. Most lower league events will begin February 11, with our Southern and Rookie leagues beginning in March. We have a record number of players and teams this Spring, so we wanted to send out some reminders on how we can all make our time together safe and enjoyable.
Sportsmanship
Please remember these are kids. This is a game. Coaches are volunteers. Umpires are human. Let’s respect these tenets of youth athletics when we’re at the fields and in the stands.
Weather
It looks like a cold and wet start. Coaches will be notifying you of any schedule changes. We will always prefer to play if possible, keeping player safety and field conditions in mind. We will strive to notify coaches and teams in advance and appreciate your understanding if changes occur right before practice/game time. We are working on a revised text and email system for alerts and additional info will follow. In the meantime, please expect to hear from your player’s coaches on any schedule adjustments.
Parking
Please ensure you use designated parking spaces only. Please be respectful of Murphey Candler residents and do not park on a lawn or block a driveway. Brookhaven PD will ticket you if you park in front of a fire hydrant or within a car length of an intersection. In addition to the surface lot by Major Field and the expanded lots on the softball/football side, parking is now open at the pool, and you can take the shorter, safer path by the lake to access the fields rather than walking down the road.
Food and Beverage
Cafe at Pharr will be back again this Spring, serving a full complement of ballpark meals, snacks and drinks starting later in February. Thank you for your patronage. You are welcome to bring your own food and beverage but please know that it is against Brookhaven law to consume alcoholic beverages in the park. Please do not bring alcohol to a practice or game. Please do not put anyone in a position to ask you to leave or have Brookhaven PD issue you a citation.
Maintenance
There should be at least one trash receptacle at every field. The expectation is that we leave the park in a better state than when we entered. Please do your part. If you see overflowing trash cans or experience other issues related to park maintenance, such as clogged toilets or leaking faucets, please use the Brookhaven Connect site/app to report them.
Sponsorships
As many of you know, we are a 100% volunteer-run organization funded by your contributions. If you are interested to know how you can support the park, please visit our dedicated Sponsors Page. Please save Monday, April 17 for the 2nd annual MC Baseball Golf Tournament. More details to follow.
Opening Day & 12-Year-Old Ceremony
While practices and games will begin sooner, please invite friends and family to our February 25th Opening Day & 12-Year-Old Ceremony. Festivities will occur throughout the day with the ceremony recognizing all 12-year-olds to begin at Noon.
Sportsmanship
Please remember these are kids. This is a game. Coaches are volunteers. Umpires are human. Let’s respect these tenets of youth athletics when we’re at the fields and in the stands. Yes, this has been repeated because following these principles help make the Murphey Candler Baseball community special for players of all abilities.
With your help, this will be another safe and enjoyable season for the players and all of us supporters. Thank you for choosing to play at Murphey Candler. We look forward to welcoming everyone down to the park!
